Making the "PERFECT" Card

Matthew and Tyler want to send Craig the perfect Christmas card this year. (and can I just add- Craig HATES bling on his dog)
So... just to show Craig how well they are taking care of his dog...his brothers bought the dogs matching red dresses, and some shinny gold bling..

They even painted their nails. For the perfect "look". Now we just have to get his card in the mail. He will LOVE it!!

Elk Hunt

So last weekend Kary went hunting with Clay. The hiked all over and never saw a single elk. At one point during the day Clay fell down while they were walking, and found out later he had broken his ankle in two places. (it is not safe for them to go out together I guess) So after 3 or 4 trips he decides that today is his lucky day...
He went by himself because evrybody else was busy. Just as it got light he sees a cow elk and takes his shot. One shot and it drops. Then he sees about 50 more run out of his little canyon (that he didn't even know were there). He finds it very easy, and starts the fun part. Did you know that elk have about 6 times the amount of blood as a deer? It takes a little longer to do the dirty work. The fun started when he was trying to figure out how to get this huge thing back to the truck when he was alone. Lucky for him his 4 wheeler has a wench on the front. He hoisted the elk up with the wench, and very carefully manuvered the bike right underneath it. (of course you just got the easy version) After "skillfully" loading it in the truck, he was ready to head home. Thank goodness the guy at the meat processing plant knew the tricks to unload. But the best part is- HIS FIRST ELK IN 25 YEARS!!!!

Trip to the Man Store

After we dropped Craig off at the MTC the guys wanted to visit Cabelas. Matthew and Tyler had a blast. They kept circling back to look at this huge elk. It is the new state record. They bought a bunch of seasoning to make deer jerky while we were there. They are on the third batch since last Wednesday, and have gone through about 15 pounds of deer meat. I'm hoping that holds them over for at least 2 weeks (you never know with them)

Halloween Fun

Wow witches and Angels hanging out together. Emalee is cute!! (and my alter ego did come out for the night) I had a few people not recognize me.
Braden made a cute turtle. He didn't want Uncle Kary to put him down. Both kids thought the highlight was the trunk -r-treating they did with Uncle Kary and the boys.

Happy Halloween

October is my favorite month of the year
I hold witches very dear...
The warts, the hat and pointy boots
All the kiddies with lots of loot
My cauldron full of a deadly brew
Always remember I'm watching you
One night a year to fly on my broom
So get out of the way and give me some room

The Corn Maze

We went down to the Staheli Corn maze to see if we could make it through.
Kamree and Jennifer got a little hungry while we were winding through all of the rows of corn.

The maze was huge. I think we only went through about half of it. Tyler was the general leading the way. We all followed him. (that way if we got lost we could blame him)
After the maze we went over to the petting zoo. The kids thought the best part was washing your hands when you got through. Kolbie wanted to wash his for a good 10 minutes.

He GOT one

Craig finally got his deer. I think he tried every hunting spot close to here. But in the end.....

...he got his deer. He is happy to say "His little brother didn't skunk him after all!!"

The "MIGHTY" Hunters

We went hunting in our "Usual spot" and Matthew got himself a 2 point. He only took one shot, and down it went. When they walked up to the deer you could see little blood bubbles coming out. That was all it took for Matthew to get sick. When we got back to camp, he had to clean the horns with baby wipes to get off any blood ( he has a blood ISSUE )before he could touch them for this picture. He was done hunting by Saturday afternoon, and spent the rest of his weekend on a four wheeler.

Tyler is very PROUD of his first deer. One shot, it dropped, and it's a 4 point. He has been smiling since opening morning. He got the first deer of the weekend, and set the bar high for his brothers. Craig is still hunting (he is after his own trophy of course ) So I will update when he finishes his hunt. It was a great weekend. The weather was even warm.

Weekend of Fun

Jennifer, Dennis and the kids all came over for the weekend. We all went to the rodeo Thursday night. That was hilarious!! Once the horses showed up Kolbie was glued. I think Kenyon's favorite part was the bulls at the end. Kamree liked the clowns, and thought they were crazy to hide in barrels with bulls pushing them all over. Friday night we went to Cedar for Matthew's football game. It was a nail biter!! They won the game 28 to 26. We went to the parade Saturday. It had about 100 entries, with almost half throwing candy. (the kids had a blast) then to the rodeo again that night and got rained on for about 15 minutes. (only in St. George ) But I have to say the best part was probably playing hopscotch with Kamree and Kenyon. We played out in the driveway for about an hour. Me and Jennifer learned a few new rules- and how to "CREATIVELY" jump through the squares. I really should have taped it.

Pine View Football

We just had homecoming week for Pine View High School two weeks ago. The cheer leaders came and decorated matthew's room for him. They also left this huge banner across our garage. Matthew wasn't home when all of this happened- but we made sure the house was all lit up when he came home from football practice. Oh, and by the way, they did win the homecoming game that Friday night. Matthew is in the right up about the team this week. This is what they had to say.......

Panther Spotlight
Panthers Of The Week
Senior linebacker and tight end, Matt Hughes, (6-1 195 lbs.) is the subject of this week's Panther Spotlight. Matt has distinguished himself this year by his amazing work ethic and unselfish play. He is not only a star on the Pine View special teams, but also helps the Panthers prepare for each weeks opponent by playing on the scout teams as well. Apart from his football duties, Matt is constantly working to help his coaches and teammates in any way he can. Whether it be getting water or ice for practice or setting up the film equipment, Matt can always be counted on to help.

He GOT His Call

Craig has been standing out by the mail box every day for two weeks to see if his letter was in the mail. (of course he leaves to go camping for the night with his dad, and it shows up) He invited a few people over to be here for his big reveal last night - and- he's going to serve in the Atlanta, Georgia mission. He will be leaving for the MTC on November 4 and is WAY excited to know where he's going.

Salsa Time

It is amazing what can happen when you have tomatoes and a little time. Me and Tyler spent our morning chopping up half of the kitchen- and we only got 6 bottles out of the deal. (but we did use quart jars) It is the first time this summer we have had enough tomatoes at one time to be able to make salsa. Tyler was all for helping- as long as he didn't have to cut up any onions. He did a great job!!

The Race

Our ward decided to have another boat race like last year. Everyone built their boat, and headed out to the lake. (after last years adventure- they didn't float too well) The boys made something big enough for everyone to get on, so they could all have fun. But still light enough to carry down to the water. The groups all climbed on their boats, and the race was on.....

I think all of the teachers were all paddeling a different direction (they didn't go in circles- but no speed records either)

After the race (the laurels won) all of the kids were playing on the teacher's boat. They tried a water version of "king of the mountain". I think Craig lasted the longest on top. It was nice and overcast, not too hot. Perfect day for a swim.

Monday, July 27, 2009

We spent two weekends in a row camping. For entertainment the boys decided to build a huge hut. They really put alot of effort into it...
The took a saw to cut boards to the right lenghth. They had a hatchet to get all of the little side branches off.... but most of all managed to get themselves completely black from head to toe.

They all liked the end result. And they only got rained on 3 or 4 times.

24th of July

After we got done with the parade. Tyler decided I needed a good laugh. He got his mustache out of a vending machine, it looks even funnier because it's gray, but he put it on and gave all of us a good laugh as we were driving up the freeway. Did I mention the parade is OVER TOO!!

YAHOO

The Hughes Family Reunion is OVER. We had a fun weekend camping with the grandkids (and their parents) On Saturday we got up early and cooked a mess hall size meal. We had 5 huge pots of sloppy joe meat to feed the crowd. We got down to Red Canyon and got set up just in the nick of time. Everyone ate, played some fun games with the kids, and had a huge auction. We ended up making $540.00 over the budget for them to put in next year's fund. The best part- IT"S OVER- did I say that already. After the reunion we drove up to the little town they have at the mouth of Bryce Canyon. They had some fun stuff to look at...
We found this GREAT "TIME OUT" box. And the best part- they all fit at once.

The bonus- even the big boys fit!! I think they had a great "TIME OUT".

Lake Powell

The boys went on a fun super activity with the young men in our ward. They all went to Lake Powell for three days. None of our kids have ever tried water sking- Well now they HAVE.
Matthew made it up for a few minutes, but said it was something he doesn't want to try again anytime soon. He had fun with alot of the other activities. They played water football (that is football in the water about 2 feet deep) trying to run was a challange- but the tackles were GREAT!

Craig got right up, and actually skied for a while. He thought it was a blast, and wants to go again. They all came home sunburned and tired- but it was FUN!!

Barbeque

We all played the race car game after we got done eating. It was quite fun to watch. Everyone started using the tree as a sling shot to try and pass the other runners. While you were waiting for your turn to race , you get to be a member of the pit crew. After the first lap, you spray the googles -and wash the windshield. After the second lap, you change the flat tire (tie a sock around the runners leg) After the third lap, you fuel the car (give the runner a drink) can I just say we had alot of -SPLASH AND GO.
We even got Emalee and Sharlee to play. Shanda ran the track with Sharlee, and Matthew ran with Emalee.

Everyone had a lot of fun. The kids had so much fun, we traded racers around and they raced three times.

FUN TIMES!!

The Haggertys came to St. George to visit. We had a lot of fun. We went to the community center to swim, (here the kids are out of the pool for a little snack break) we also went to skinny man's cave. Try as I might I couldn't get all the way through. One little 2 foot section just wouldn't let me by (I tried from both directions) But we did have a lot of fun. And Shjon very nicely "Helped" the parents get back down to solid ground. The weather even cooperated so we didn't have to bake during all of our adventures.

Sad News

The tiny brown and white puppy died when he was only two days old. We tried to help him, I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Muffy (the black puppy) is doing well!! She has Kiarra's undevided attention and gets fed ALOT. She has a cute chubby belly. She still doesn't have her eyes open. When that happens I will post another picture.

Finally the Puppies are HERE

What a long day!! She had 4 puppies, but only 2 survived. The little brown and white one is a boy. The black one is a girl.
They are TINY !!

Out and About

We all went out riding while everyone was here for a visit. Kamree tried learning to drive a bike all by herself (she only has one speed- full blast)
The boys tagged along with anyone who would give them a ride.

Kolbie's favorite part of the whole week was Uncle Tyler. These two were attached at the hip most of the time.

Take the Grandkids to WORK Day!!

The kids wanted to know where grandpa went and what he was doing so.... we went for a little field trip. Kolbie thought the tractor was great- until grandpa actually turned it on. Then he couldn't get off fast enough.
Kamree climbed right up and sat down. She asked about a million questions the whole time. After a few minutes Kenyon got a little braver and climbed up to see what was going on.

He thought that was great but- WHEN DOES HE GET TO HELP DRIVE? Grandpa let Kamree and Kenyon help him drive the tractor. Kenyon thought that was the highlight of the whole day.

Kolbie thought the best part was chuggin' grandpa powerade. (and you can see he didn't have to twist grandpa's arm too hard)

Babysitting with Style

We took Sharlee and JJ swiming while we were babysitting the other night. Sharlee had a blast swimming with Tyler. He has babysitting skills!! Everytime Matthew tried to get near Sharlee she would splash him and run the other way.
This is what JJ thinks about my babysitting skills. I guess I need to work on it.

Tyler turns 14

Can you believe he is already 14! He measured how tall he is about 2 weeks ago, and he already passed me up. We went to one of the parks by our house for a party. We played a race game, and all of the kids had a blast.

This is Tyler taking his turn in the race.

Nascar Weekend

One of the pre-race events we went to was done by the National Guard. If you did 30 pushups, or 30 sit ups, or 10 pull ups- you got the choice of a t-shirt or hat. Matthew made the pushups look WAY TOO EASY. Everybody gave it a shot. Kary did pushups, Tyler did situps, and I did pushups (I only had to do 15)
There were a lot of cautions during the race. We saw some GREAT wrecks!

The race was the Shelby 427, so they had a lot of cars for show around the track...

The boys really enjoyed the cars!!!
